Parent Stories
After having a preemie, you learn so much about the challenges preemies can face and how important a human milk diet is for them. I’ve been married to my wonderful husband for 8 years now. We'd been told that we couldn’t have kids and had resigned ourselves to be the "cool" aunt and uncle. We are still the "cool" aunt and uncle, but now we are also parents! We have 2 miracle boys, Jackson and Daniel. Both of our boys are preemies. Jackson was born at 29 weeks after my water broke at 27 weeks. He spent 7 weeks in the NICU. Today he’s a happy healthy 3 and a half year old boy. Daniel was born at 34 weeks and spent 2 and a half weeks in the NICU. We just celebrated his 1st birthday. He’s also a very happy healthy little guy.
I wanted to be a breast milk donor because I wanted to help premature babies and help my family financially. On several Facebook groups, I saw ladies talking about their positive experiences with Tiny Treasures Milk Bank. I wanted to be a part of the good they were doing. I have been a donor for 9 months with my recent little one and was a donor for 7 months with my oldest.
The most rewarding part of donating is helping premature babies. My family has been blessed with our two miracles -- both happy, healthy little boys. We love that we are helping other families provide healthy nutrition to their little ones. The compensation has helped our family pay bills and purchase a beautiful new home this past August. Our new home will be a great place for our boys to grow up.
My biggest struggle with pumping is that it takes away from family time and requires that I keep a strict schedule. Thankfully, I asked for help and have gotten a lot of support. My family makes sure I am able to pump when needed. My biggest pumping achievement is that I have made it to 1 year again pumping. I plan on pumping for a few more months!
