Donor Sara's Journey with Tiny Treasures Milk Bank

Donor Sara

I have a wonderful, supportive husband and three beautiful boys, ages 6, 5, and 8 months. I’m a small- town Wisconsin girl with a nursing degree. I can't imagine life without my little ones. I decided to put nursing on hold and raise my children.

I am currently a less-than-part-time waitress and a full-time mom. As for my donation journey, I started donating with Prolacta 10 months ago. My first child is currently thriving, but it wasn’t always that way. He spent about a month in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), having been diagnosed with a serious medical condition following birth. My time in the NICU, expressing milk alongside other preemie mommas, makes donating milk so much more special to me.

I can imagine, with realness, all the babies that I am helping by donating my milk to Tiny Treasures Milk Bank. Donating gives me the freedom to be a stay-at-home mom and makes it affordable. Pumping is hard work and time consuming, but the stories and lives of these beautiful babies make it worth it.

Touring Prolacta’s Facility

Visiting California has always been on my bucket list. Knowing that Prolacta’s facility is located in Southern California, I reached out to the milk bank staff, and I was thrilled when I was invited to tour the Prolacta facility!

I was excited to see firsthand where Prolacta’s products are made, and it was neat to experience the process from start to finish. I saw a large number of coolers containing donated milk being received and processed, and I saw hospital orders for finished Prolacta products being fulfilled in another area of the facility.

The whole experience gave me such an appreciation for the efficiency of Prolacta’s system. Plus, everyone was so incredibly friendly…if I lived close to the facility, I’d apply to work there! Something I learned that I hadn’t previously thought about is that Prolacta goes above and beyond to fulfill hospital orders, on demand, and ship them overnight or sometimes on the same day. Whether it’s an order for one bottle or 100, Prolacta truly believes that NICU babies come first! The company’s passion for their jobs and the babies they serve is evident.
