For Mother’s Day this year, we invited our breast milk donors to share their stories as mothers and donors. We hope their stories and tips can make a difference for other moms looking to start their milk donor journey!

Tracy D's Donor Story

"My name is Tracy. I'm married to a wonderful stay-at-home dad, Luke. We have a 3 year old son, Thaen, and a 11.5 month old daughter, Adrianna. They are our world! The hardest part of being a parent [was] the process of becoming a parent. Luke and I had trouble conceiving. I have a completely separated bicornuate uterus [a condition in which is associated with miscarriages]  and a very low chance of getting pregnant. We [took] many months of medications. We finally got so stressed that we decided to take a step back and relax for a few moments before we trying again. We were off medication for nearly one and a half months before I randomly decided to take a [pregnancy] test. Mind you, the doctors did 3 ultrasounds weekly to check for follicle growth. And none was visible the entire time I was on medication! [Then I found out I was] PREGNANT! I ran through the house buck naked to show my sleeping husband the stick. "Does that mean were ovulating?" I'll never forget it! Tears of joy for days. But everything went great for a high risk pregnancy! The only downfall to [my condition, forced me] to have a c-section. But it was all worth it! When my son was first born, I donated my excess breast milk to another milk bank. Our daughter was another blessed surprised - another problem-less pregnancy! After the birth of my daughter I started extra breast milk donating with [Tiny Treasures] since August and have sent in roughly 20,000 oz and so very proud of myself, mentally and physically, for going on for this long! My tips for new donors would be to stay hydrated and eat!!! And don't stress! Donating even a little helps so don't worry if you're not donating as much as someone else. You're still helping the little babies!"
