Program Overview:
Preterm early-onset sepsis (EOS) remains a global problem that is potentially fatal. This series of videos will discuss antibiotics, when to stop them and the role of exclusive human milk diets in decreasing sepsis.
Learning Objectives:
By participating in this unit, participants should be able to:
- Summarize the current epidemiology, microbiology, and pathogenesis of neonatal sepsis in VLBW infants while providing a framework for the development of evidence-based approaches to sepsis risk assessment among these infants
- Evaluate the value of exclusive human milk diet (EHMD) in decreasing sepsis in VLBW infants and improving neurodevelopmental outcomes in these at-risk infants
