Meet Donor Brittany and Her Journey As a First Time Donor

For Mother’s Day this year, we invited our donors to share their stories as mothers and donors. We hope their stories and tips can make a difference for other donor moms!

Brittany's Donor Story

"Hi, My name is Brittany I married my high school sweetheart in 2012 and we welcomed our first daughter Aubrey in April 2014. We had terrible nursing problems so I exclusively pumped despite discouragement from the hospital and no real guidance. I was blessed with an over supply and was able to only pump for 6 months and feed her milk for over a year with a few local donations. It wasn't until after I weaned that I found out about donating to hospitals. In April 2015, I lost my mother whom we lived with and 2 months later I found out I was pregnant with my second. I had lost my father while pregnant with Aubrey. This was the hardest thing I had ever gone through being a mother without my own mother. I had a high risk pregnancy and a toddler so I couldn't run downstairs and seek help. Without my mom, I couldn't call her for advice so I felt so lost, but  my pregnancy progressed. I was worried my hopes of being able to donate were never going to happen. But luckily, shortly after Paisley's birth I was able to get off all the medications and my health returned to normal. Just being able to donate was a huge milestone for me and as I'm currently waiting to make my first donation. I'm so excited to be a part of this wonderful group and I'm looking forward to how far this journey will take me!"
