Meet Helping Hands Donor, Elizabeth!

Meet Donor Elizabeth Paterson

When I first brought my baby home from the hospital, I was terrified by all the breastfeeding stories I had heard. I was told the only way I could ever maintain my supply was to pump between each feeding. I did this religiously, simply out of ignorance and fear of not being able to continue exclusively breastfeeding after I went back to work fulltime.

In a matter of a few weeks I had built up a huge supply in the freezer and it became very apparent my son would never use all of it. I was fortunate enough to produce A LOT of milk. I think I could have fed triplets. During this time I had briefly scrolled by an ad for Helping Hands Milk Bank on Facebook and I as curious. I clicked on and knew right away I had to donate. I couldn't bear to throw away all the milk I had accumulated and being able to help premature babies from the comfort of my own home seemed like a dream.

Though the application process was extensive, it was worth it! I am so happy I donated and had a small part in providing lifesaving nutrients to the one of the most vulnerable populations.
